How to Unlock Your Vehicle
Modern electronic key fobs provide superior functionality and convenience in comparison to traditional manual keys. Batteries will eventually get worn out and require replacement. If your Volvo key fob has begun to malfunction intermittently, it's an indication that the battery is dying and will need replacement in the near future.
You can replace the Volvo key fob batteries by following a couple of steps. First, you must locate a clean work surface to begin the process. Then, lay out all of the tools you'll need. Find the battery's hatch, and open it using a flathead, coin, or another similar tool. After that, carefully remove the battery by lifting the side closest to the hook of the key-ring. Wear rubber gloves to protect the clips and electronic contact surfaces.
After the battery is removed, place the new one in its socket. Make sure that the positive side is facing up and that it's seated in all of the clips. Then slide the cover down and towards the key-ring loop section until it is loose and slides off. Then, you can remove the cover to reveal the key blade hidden inside. You can use this to unlock your vehicle from the driver's side if you have lost or broken the key fob.
How to Start Your Vehicle
Modern vehicles are equipped with keyfobs which do more than just unlock and secure the doors. They can also be used for other handy functions like summoning and auto-parking the vehicle. The brand new Volvo XC60 is capable of remotely starting your engine via its key fob buttons. But how exactly does it work?
First, find a clean surface on which you can lay out all the essential items needed for this project. Then, lay replacement volvo key down on the surface with its Volvo logo facing upwards. Then utilize a flathead screwdriver or coin or similar device to switch the battery hatch from the open position. Be careful not to touch the electronic contact surfaces with your tools. This could cause the fob to cease working properly.
After the hatch has been opened, place the battery in its socket. Make sure the positive (+ side) is facing up. Once the clips are secured Replace the battery cover and reassemble your fob.
When you press the unlock button just once, the alarm will be disengaged and the door for the driver will be unlocked. Pressing it a second time will unlock all doors as well as the tailgate. The unlock button can also be useful for rolling down the windows to let in cool, fresh air on a hot summer day. If you'd like more than that, the keyfob can be used to trigger the ERS system, which will start the climate control system of your vehicle. It will then warm or cool the vehicle according to the desired temperature settings while the vehicle is parked.
How to Replace the Battery
If your key fob is no longer locks or unlocks your car it may be time to replace the battery. Changing the battery is fairly easy and requires only a small flathead screwdriver or plastic pry bar tool. First look for the small slot where the backup/emergency key fob made of steel used to be. Insert the blade of your screwdriver or pry bar tool into this slot and gently open the back of the fob for the key. After the fob is open, locate the CR2032 3V battery and remove it. Place a new battery in its place and snap the fob back together.
Note: Some older Volvo models use another type of battery that is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries are 7 10ths of a millimeter smaller than a CR2032 battery, so you must be extra careful when placing the battery of your replacement.

Your key fob contains a transponder chip that is programmed to your Volvo. When you insert it into the ignition barrel, an antenna reads the code and compares it with the one in your vehicle's start inhibitor module. If the codes don't match and your car doesn't start, it won't. This is an important security measure that stops your Volvo from running if the wrong ignition key is used.
If you lose your keys then you'll need to bring it to a dealership to get it replaced and your vehicle changed. This process can take between 5 and 10 days and cost you a significant amount of money. You can save money by programming your computer. You can find all the necessary information in your owner's manual or on the internet. Remove the logo and nonlogo covers and lay your key fob on an uncluttered surface. Press the grey button in the upper right corner of your fob. The cover will be opened to reveal the CR2032 battery.
